New method for fast pressure simulation

Renaud Traby will present a new method for fast pressure simulation during the coming IAMG conference in Olomouc

Pore pressure prediction is a very important task for petroleum companies as abrupt changes in pore pressure during drilling can cause substantial issues when they are not anticipated. Petroleum system models provide an optimal way to integrate all the information on a sedimentary basin to model in 3D the field of pressure. In extreme geological conditions, with high overpressured geological formations, simulations of such models can take several hours on multiple processors making difficult calibration and rapid update of the models.

During the IAMG 2018 (2-8 September), in Olomouc, Renaud Traby will present a new method developped in IFPEN for fast pressure simulation in petroleum system modelling. This new approach which is based on two patents, can save up to 90% of the time required for these simulations even in the most extreme geological conditions. This innovation paves the way to new and very promising applications of petroleum system modelling for reliable prediction of pore pressure and fracture gradients while drilling.
